Board of Education Special Meeting

November 8, 2005

The Board of Education of Independent School District #330 held a special meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 2005.  Larry Diemer, Steve Droll, Dale Hesemann, Jill Liepold, John Stenzel, and ex officio Becky Cselovszki, Superintendent, were present.  Kevin Leopold was also present.  Harvey Kruger was absent.

John Stenzel, chairman, called the meeting to order at 9:00 p.m.  A quorum was declared with five of six members present.  Droll moved, seconded by Diemer, to approve the agenda.  The motion passed.

Kevin Leopold gave an update on the progress of the Heron Lake lot development.  New sedimentation ponds will need to be built.  Leopold notified the Board that there would be an opportunity to get the fill that will be from this construction.

Leopold then discussed the proposal of a bike trail between Heron Lake and Okabena.  The project had been given a one-year extension to decide if it is needed.  The board will need to decide if it would benefit to have the High School and Elementary School joined by a bike trail and if the Board would support the construction of it.  Both items will be discussed at our regular Board meeting on November 15.

Election results were reported to the Board.  There were a total of 297 votes cast.  The three candidates that received the most votes were John Volk, with 256 votes, John Stenzel with 229 votes, and Dale Hesemann, with 216 votes.  Liepold moved, seconded by Droll to approve the election results.  The motion carried.

Stenzel moved, seconded by Hesemann, to approve the Assurance of Compliance with State and Federal Law prohibiting Discrimination for the ’05-’06 school year.  The motion carried.

Diemer suggested that, when the Board meets in Heron Lake, that we move the meeting into a larger room, if we need to accommodate more people.  Stenzel would consider any suggestions from the Board before and during the meetings.

Droll moved, seconded by Hesemann to adjourn the meeting.  The motion carried.

Respectfully submitted,

Jill Liepold, Clerk
